Navodari
Informations
Năvodari - The first documentary attestation is from the time of the Ottoman administration, when the locality appears mentioned in 1421 with the name of Caracoium (a name derived from the Turkish words kara and koyum, translated as black sheep), a name that later became Carachioi (from the Turkish words kara koy , meaning "black village").

In 1890, its surface was 119 hectares, where 114 families with 506 souls lived, made up of Romanians, Bulgarians, Turks and Austrians, whose basic occupation was fishing.

In 1927, following the change of the names of the villages in Old Dobrogea, the settlement was named Navodari, due to the local specificity. The urban evolution, the transition from the rural framework to the urban structure occurs after the Second World War, especially starting from 1949-1950, when the economic and industrial development transforms the locality into an important working center.

The construction of the Midia-Năvodari Petrochemical Complex and later of the Poarta Albă-Midia Năvodari Canal led to a demographic explosion in 1983, when the population reached 26,000 inhabitants.
